Early Life and Background

Diane Wuornos was born in Rochester, New Hampshire, in 1956. She was abandoned by her mother and raised by her grandparents in a rural area. Wuornos experienced abuse, instability, and homelessness during her youth, factors often cited in later accounts of her life.

Crimes and Arrest

Between 1989 and 1990, Wuornos killed seven men in Florida, claiming they had attacked or attempted to rape her while she was working as a sex worker. She was arrested after a traffic stop linked her to the deaths. Police found weapons and other evidence connecting her to the crimes.

Trial, Sentencing, and Execution

In 1991, Wuornos was convicted of six murders and sentenced to death. She maintained that the killings were acts of self-defense, but courts rejected this argument. She was executed by lethal injection in Florida in 2002. Her case has been widely covered in true crime media and documentaries.
