What Are the Geminids

The Geminids are one of the strongest annual meteor showers, producing up to 150 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. They appear to radiate from the constellation Gemini and are linked to asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

When to Watch the Geminids

The shower typically peaks around mid-December, with activity spanning several nights. In 2025, the peak is expected on the night of December 13 into the early morning of December 14, though rates remain elevated for a few days before and after.

How to Observe the Geminids

Find a dark location away from city lights, dress warmly, and let your eyes adjust for at least 20 minutes. The Geminids are best seen after midnight, when Gemini rises higher in the sky.
