Founding and Early Years

H&M was founded in 1947 by Erling Persson in Västerås, Sweden. The first store, called Hennes, exclusively sold women's clothing. The name later changed to Hennes & Mauritz after Persson acquired a hunting equipment store called Mauritz Widforss.

Global Expansion and Business Model

The company expanded internationally starting in the 1970s, opening stores across Europe and eventually worldwide. H&M is known for offering fast fashion at accessible price points, collaborating with designers and celebrities to attract a broad customer base.

Recent Corporate Developments

H&M remains a publicly traded company listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm. The retailer continues to operate thousands of stores globally and has focused on digital sales and sustainability initiatives. For more details, visit the official H&M Group website.
