Accidental Invention at 3M

Post-it Notes originated in 1968 when 3M scientist Spencer Silver created a weak, reusable adhesive by mistake. The glue stuck lightly but could be repositioned without leaving residue.

From Failure to Office Essential

Years later, colleague Art Fry used the adhesive to anchor bookmarks in his hymnal. The product launched commercially in 1980 and quickly became a standard office tool for reminders and notes.

Global Adoption and Modern Use

Today, Post-it Notes are sold in over 100 countries and used in homes, schools, and workplaces. The brand remains a symbol of quick, flexible communication in daily workflows.
