Laci Peterson disappeared from her home in Modesto on December 24, 2002. Scott Peterson was later convicted of murdering her by strangulation and then dumping her body in San Francisco Bay. Prosecutors said he killed her to be with another woman, and the jury agreed after a lengthy trial.
