Is There a Sequel to The Handmaid's Tale Book
Yes. The original 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood has a direct sequel titled The Testaments, published in 2019. The book continues the story of Gilead from the perspective of three female narrators.
What The Testaments Adds to the Story
The sequel is set fifteen years after the events of the first book. It reveals the inner workings of Gilead's regime, details the rise of Aunt Lydia, and follows two young women, Agnes and Daisy, as they navigate the regime's rules.
How the Book and TV Series Compare
The TV adaptation on Hulu has largely moved past the events of the original novel. The series uses The Testaments as source material but also creates new plotlines. The book provides a definitive continuation of the narrative that the show expands upon.
