Chronological Star Wars Release Timeline
The saga spans three eras. The prequel trilogy begins with the fall of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Empire. The original trilogy follows the Rebel Alliance against the Empire. The sequel trilogy continues the story of a new generation of heroes and the return of the First Order.
Release Order Versus Story Order
Release order follows the theatrical debut dates, starting with the original 1977 film. Story order follows the in-universe chronology, beginning with the prequels. Fans often watch release order first for nostalgia, then story order to experience the complete narrative arc.
How to Watch Star Wars in Timeline Order
Start with the prequel trilogy, continue with the original trilogy, and finish with the sequel trilogy. The standalone films fit between the main episodes. For a detailed episode list and release dates, visit the official Star Wars website at https://www.starwars.com/.
