John Bonham died at The Old Mill House in Clewer, Windsor, Berkshire, England, on 25 September 1980. He had been drinking at a rehearsal studio earlier that day and was found unresponsive at the home.

Cause and Circumstances

Bonham had consumed a large amount of alcohol before and after rehearsal. He later vomited and inhaled stomach contents, leading to pulmonary aspiration. The coroner recorded death by asphyxiation from vomit.

Legacy and Impact

Bonham’s death ended Led Zeppelin, as the surviving members felt the band could not continue without him. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential rock drummers in history.
