Who Is the Wicked Book Author
The Wicked book author is Gregory Maguire. He wrote the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which reimagines the Land of Oz from the perspective of Elphaba.
What the Book Is About
The novel follows Elphaba from childhood through her political activism and complicated relationship with Glinda. It explores themes of power, prejudice, and morality, offering a darker, more nuanced take on the classic Oz story.
How the Book Became a Global Franchise
Maguire’s novel inspired the long-running Broadway musical Wicked, which opened in 2003 and became one of the highest-grossing shows in theater history. The franchise now includes films, merchandise, and extensive media coverage, with the musical’s economic impact widely documented by sources such as BroadwayWorld.
